HOT-DIP GALVANIZING

I. INTRODUCTION

- Hot-dip galvanizing is an effective method for protecting metal surfaces by coating a thin layer of zinc on the surface. This zinc layer is formed through the process of immersing metal into a bath containing molten zinc. This is now the best and most popular method providing corrosion resistance. During the galvanizing process, the metal is alloyed with the substrate. Therefore, the zinc-plated layer will not peel off like when using paint, creating a long-lasting protection layer for the substrate.

- After the plating process, the zinc layer covering the metal surface will become a part of the metal layer, making the plated product highly sustainable. Metal parts are completely immersed in a bath of molten zinc, ensuring that the entire surface of the part is protected by the plating layer. The mechanical properties of metals and steel are not affected after plating.

- Hot-dip galvanizing is highly effective in creating a protective layer for metal structures in harsh environments, mist, seawater, industrial gases, etc.

- Hot-dip galvanizing is applied in many industries such as construction, power transmission, transportation, papers, chemicals, oils, gas rigs, etc.

II. PROCESS
The hot-dip galvanizing process includes the following steps:

• Clean metal surfaces, remove paint, oil, or impurities from the surface. This helps the plating layer adhere well to the metal surface, and the plating layer does not have unusual colors. This step is carried out in a tank of KMnO4 solution mixed with additives.
• Clean alkaline solution and grease by water.
• Remove rust with acid.
• Clean details after acid pickling by water.
• Chemical treatment helps protect the surface of the part from oxidation in the future and improve the wettability of zinc on the surface of the part when dipping.
• Immerse zinc and the details into a zinc bath with the appropriate temperature and composition, so that zinc will diffuse and mechanically adhere to the detail with a certain thickness.
• Treat the surface with a passivation solution to increase the protection and appearance of the part.
• Clean and check the product.
